KTSU 90.9 FM earns Pinnacle Award from Greater Houston Black Chamber

Written by on October 23, 2021

Texas Southern University’s award-winning, 50-year-old community radio station, KTSU 90.9 FM, has earned another honor, this time from the Greater Houston Black Chamber (GHBC) via its 27th annual African American Business Achievement Pinnacle Awards. The Pinnacle Awards celebrate African American businesses that are “seizing the moment and building back better for our community.”

KTSU is one of six winners in the Community category, earning the Pinnacle’s Endurance Award, which recognizes an African American owned business in the Houston community that has exhibited longevity, perseverance and strength. The award will be presented on Oct. 23 during a virtual ceremony to be broadcast at 7 p.m. on KTBU, Quest Texas 55, and the GHBC Facebook and YouTube channels.

“This recognition comes at a special time for KTSU,” said Ernest Walker, KTSU General Manager. “Not only did we just celebrate 50 years of on-air excellence, but we have persevered and increased our audience throughout the pandemic. We are honored that the Houston Black Chamber sees the value and service that KTSU brings to the Houston area and beyond.”

KTSU is a major component of outreach at Texas Southern University, providing the community with non-commercial schedules of public affairs programming, jazz, blues, R&B oldies, gospel, reggae, neo soul, hip hop, zydeco music and other special programs 24 hours a day.
