Dan Patrick said individual assistance was added to Texas’ federal disaster declaration after officials assessed homes damaged by the storm. Patrick is serving as governor while Gov. Greg Abbott is on a pre-planned trip to Asia. The details The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved aid for affected individuals on July 12 in Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton counties. According to Patrick’s office, FEMA’s individual disaster assistance program may cover:   Temporary housing Emergency home repairs Uninsured or underinsured personal property losses Disaster legal services Disaster unemployment assistance Medical, dental and funeral expenses caused by the storm   The state also requested Fort Bend and Nacogdoches counties be added to the individual assistance program, Patrick said, and other counties may be added later. How to apply Texans who live in the 15 counties and experienced losses due to Hurricane Beryl can apply for assistance at the agency’s Disaster Assistance portal or call 1-800-621-3362, FEMA said in a news release. Residents who use relay services, such as video relay or captioned telephone service, may give FEMA the number for that service when reaching out. Officials also encourage Texans to report personal property damage to the state and, if applicable, to their insurance companies. In a news release, Lt. Gov. In June, the restaurant was crowned Best Breakfast in Houston on Good Morning America. “It was shocking, I don’t even know how we got on their radar, but it’s definitely a blessing,” Co-owner JC Ricks said. The café was founded in 2016 as a coffee shop but turned into a restaurant by adding 25 menu items, including its popular chicken and waffles “We’ve had people tell us they have driven two hours just to come here to try our chicken and waffles,” CO-owner Sarah Lieberman said. The airwaves are about to get a whole lot livelier as The Vibe proudly announces its latest addition to the talk show scene: “Sidechat Vibe Lounge,” hosted by the esteemed Taylor Getwood. Hailing from Port Arthur, TX, Getwood brings a wealth of experience and a contagious energy to his new role as host of “Sidechat” starting Wednesday, June 12th from 12pm-2pm CST.  Getwood’s journey to this new position of radio personality is nothing short of remarkable. Recently appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott as one of the eight student regents for Texas Southern University, Getwood has already left an incredible mark on both his university and his community. His term, effective from June 1, 2024, through May 31, 2025, underscores his commitment to public service and higher education.  Getwood’s passion for leadership and community engagement has been evident from an early age. During his undergraduate years, he distinguished himself as Tex the Tiger, a residential assistant, and a founding member of Brothers United. His crowning achievements include being named Mister Texas Southern University in 2022, a historic moment as the first Mister Texas Southern to also hold the title of Mister HBCU.  With a Bachelor’s degree in Communications specializing in Radio, Television, and Film, Getwood’s trajectory to KTSU’s airwaves was written in the stars. His journey began in Donna Franklin’s “Voice and Diction” class, where his talent and charisma positioned him as a standout talent.  “I’m ready to put into action everything I’ve worked for,” declares Getwood, emphasizing his eagerness to leverage his acting and singing talents on “Sidechat.” As a member of the “Black Boys Cry” stage play and a recognized singer across Texas, Getwood plans to infuse the show with his unique blend of entertainment and insight.  For Getwood, “Sidechat” represents an opportunity to serve the TSU student body and amplify their voices.
