Gregg Leakes, the husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes, died Wednesday due to colon cancer. He was 66 years old. Longtime family friend Ernest Dukes confirmed news of his death in a statement that read, in part, “The Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife Nene.” The statement went on to say that the family is asking for peace, prayers and privacy as they go through this difficult time. Bravo executive Andy Cohen posted his condolences on social media, saying he is “heartbroken over the passing of Gregg Leakes,” a wonderful man whom he jokingly called “Pastor Leakes.” Cohen also praised Gregg for being a strong voice of reason who commanded great respect among the entire #RHOA team. Fans were able to see much of Gregg’s battle with the disease unfold on the reality show, in which he appeared on for 12 seasons, alongside his wife. Gregg was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2018. Rest in Heaven, sir. You will be truly missed.

A new pro-gun law that went into effect Wednesday allows most Texans who legally own a firearm to carry it openly in public without obtaining a permit or training. This is an issue many experts say will make it more challenging for law enforcement officers to protect the public from gun violence. The controversial “constitutional carry” legislation is the latest in a series of pro-gun bills that state lawmakers passed this year as gun violence incidents rise in Texas and across the country. According to CNN, the number of shootings in Texas, not including suicides, increased 14% this year with roughly 3,200 shootings compared to the same period in 2020, and gun violence incidents this year represent a 50% increase over the same period in 2019. Law enforcement officers have expressed concerned for citizens who could wind up getting arrested because they’re unclear of the rules, and this new bill could make it more difficult for officers arriving to scenes with citizens having guns out. We want to encourage everyone to do their due diligence, research the laws, and please understand that this is NOT the “Wild, Wild, West.” Be responsible out here, people.
