Gregg Leakes, the husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes, died Wednesday due to colon cancer. He was 66 years old. Longtime family friend Ernest Dukes confirmed news of his death in a statement that read, in part, “The Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife Nene.” The statement went on to say that the family is asking for peace, prayers and privacy as they go through this difficult time. Bravo executive Andy Cohen posted his condolences on social media, saying he is “heartbroken over the passing of Gregg Leakes,” a wonderful man whom he jokingly called “Pastor Leakes.” Cohen also praised Gregg for being a strong voice of reason who commanded great respect among the entire #RHOA team. Fans were able to see much of Gregg’s battle with the disease unfold on the reality show, in which he appeared on for 12 seasons, alongside his wife. Gregg was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2018. Rest in Heaven, sir. You will be truly missed.

It’s time to say goodbye to yet another one of our stars who made Black actors shine. Suzzanne Douglas, an accomplished stage and screen actress who starred in the Robert Townsend television series, “The Parent ‘Hood,” has died, her representatives confirmed. She was 64. The Chicago native had an impressive list of credits that included films like “Whitney,” “School of Rock,” and “The Inkwell.” Douglas also starred in “Jason’s Lyric,” which was filmed right here in Houston.  The film also starred Forest Whitaker, Jada Pinkett Smith, Allen Payne and Bokeem Woodbine. On television, she also appeared in shows like “Bones,” “The Good Wife” and “NYPD Blue.” Director Ava DuVernay wrote on Twitter that Douglas was “a quiet, elegant force” as they made “WHEN THEY SEE US,” also saying she was a “confident, caring actor who breathed life into the words and made them shimmer.” Angela Bassett, who starred with Douglas in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” said, “Suzzanne was my brave, beautiful and brilliant sister. An incandescent light among us. I adored her essence, her energy, her intelligence, her grace, her faith and her fight. Suzzanne’s spirit was contagious. She saw the best in everyone, and God’s hand in every challenge. Even the most difficult. Rest, sweet angel.” No cause of death has been released at this time.

The Supreme Court honored Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in a private ceremony, followed by public viewing on Wednesday.  Ginsburg, a feminist icon and champion for social justice, died Friday at the age of 87 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court and served for more than 27 years.  Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg lies in repose at the Supreme Court, where thousands of mourners are expected to pay their respects. https://t.co/4737VD5i7O — HuffPost (@HuffPost) September 23, 2020 “It has been said that Ruth wanted to be an opera virtuoso, but became a rock star instead,” Chief Justice John Roberts said during his eulogy. “But she chose the law. Subjected to discrimination in law school and the job market because she was a woman, Ruth would grow to become a leading advocate fighting such discrimination in court. She was not an opera star, but she found her stage right behind me, in our courtroom.” Ginsburg will lie in repose for two days at the top of the front steps of the Supreme Court building. The public viewing is being held outdoors to follow COVID protocol. On Friday, Ginsburg’s casket will be moved to the U.S. Capitol building for another ceremony, and she will be the first woman to ever lie in state.

“Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, Black America’s beloved superhero, has died after a four-year battle with colon cancer. He was 43.
