Komedy Lounge feeding Houston’s homeless

Written by on June 14, 2022

Leonard Hayes, owner of the Komedy Lounge, is bringing top talent to Houston’s north side and using the proceeds to feed the homeless.

He has partnered with United Blessings Ministries to distribute healthy meals to help combat the ongoing food crisis.

“Over the last two and half years, our lives have been turned upside down with the pandemic so this is the perfect time to bring laughter back,” Hayes said. “With everything we are going through, we need to replace the pain with laughter.”

But one thing we can’t laugh about is homelessness and the food crisis.

“At my place, we don’t have comedy food, we have comfort food, and we want to share that with those in the community who are in need,” Hayes said.

Twice a month – on every first and third Friday – Hayes provides 300 meals for the homeless. The Komedy Lounge actually prepares the meals, which the ministry then picks up and distributes to the people in need.

But Hayes feels that is still not enough. That is why, over the summer, he is bringing in even more talent, to draw in more crowds, to provide more meals. He has a lineup of A-list comics who will be gracing his stage.

He is also working with organizations to help with prison ministries to help provide job opportunities for people who need “second chances.”
