We are thrilled to introduce a new series highlighting our talented on-air personalities so that listeners can get to know them better and connect deeper with our programs. We kick off this monthly feature with the amazing Amir Diamond, host of The Afternoon Hustle weekdays at 2pm. Read on to get to know “The Hustler,” Amir!
Q: What inspired you to start your show? What motivates you to continue hosting each week?
Amir: “The Afternoon Hustle” was birthed in 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic. My mission has always been to entertain, encourage, inspire & inform. My ultimate goal was to give the community a show that would help them escape from our everyday problems (Monday-Friday from 2-7PM). When people tune in, I hope that they chuckle or smile at least once; and if they do…. then I’ve done my job.
Our talented students who are studying broadcasting have motivated me to continue to put on great shows throughout the week. I am aware that God has placed me at The Vibe (powered by KTSU 90.9) for a reason and I don’t take it lightly. When I was in school, I wish I could pick the brain of professionals who have had success in the career field that I dreamt of being in. I love being that role model for our Tigers and look forward to seeing them shine.
Q: What is something your audience would be surprised to learn about you?
Amir: I’m an open book. I share a lot of my life on the airwaves. I’ve talked about my struggles as an openly gay black male and I’ve let folks in on what it was like when my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I think my transparency has created a safe space for not only my listeners, but for the popular artists who stop by my show as well.
Q: Any other closing thoughts /motivation for our readers & listeners?
Amir: I’d like to close this out the same way I close out my show every night: Remember to “Live this dream and to never let someone steal your shine!”
